We started our review by playing a game of Vocabulary Dice. Basically each number on a die is given a different task (draw a picture explaining the word, come up with an antonym for the word, use the word in a sentence, etc.) and we take turn rolling the die for each of the nine vocabulary words. This was the assignment the students submitted for the day.
Then we talked about the upcoming assessment and started to prepare. There are two assessments next class ("Do it" and "Know it") and here is how it will work:
This probably seems very complicated but the students figure it out and will be able to achieve the score they want (or earn). And if it all falls apart, there are always retakes!
Then we talked about the upcoming assessment and started to prepare. There are two assessments next class ("Do it" and "Know it") and here is how it will work:
- "Do it" - This will cover the skills we've learned. I will provided instructions and the students will need to be able to follow them and demonstrate each skill. For the review, I gave the students a list of what they'll need to do and they could practice or ask questions on how to do some of it.
- "Know it" - This will cover the knowledge and vocabulary we've learned. For the assessment, the students will start off with multiple-choice questions. Doing this successfully will get the students to a "2", and for the review, I provided a practice quiz that randomly draws five questions from the actual test bank (14 questions in total). So if students take this practice quiz several times, they are basically guaranteed receiving at least a "2" on this part of the assessment. To reach a "3", the student will need to compete a fill-in-the-blank section of the quiz and for a "4", there will be one open-ended question to answer. For the "3" and "4" sections, there isn't any specific review material other than studying the notes we've taken.
This probably seems very complicated but the students figure it out and will be able to achieve the score they want (or earn). And if it all falls apart, there are always retakes!
