For the first day of the school year, we focused on fun activities to ease in. But for the second day, we're jumping right in. Of course we started with a bit of a "get to know you" based on what color of candy you chose, but the semester is so short that we don't have a lot of extra time. So we quickly dove into our rules and procedures and the content we'll cover. There was one piece of homework (which will hardly ever happen): your student needs to show you the disclosure statement and then answer a few questions in a Canvas quiz to let me know it happened.
With the formalities out of the way, we logged into our online keyboarding program. Keyboarding is an under-appreciated skill these days since we all dream of the day when our computers will understand everything we say. But that promise has been "right around the corner" for the last decade! So if a student wants to finish their homework quickly enough for serious gaming time, being an efficient keyboarder is a must. Now, this is not a keyboarding class, and we'll only be practicing for five minutes every day, but we will be focusing on using the proper techniques and posture to (hopefully) develop some good habits. And from there, they can only get faster.
Finally, we ended class with a Kahoot about random facts. There wasn't enough time to start our first unit, but next class... Digital Communication!
