Today we took the assessment for our Python unit. The students needed to write a program, but we left the "library" on the board and each student gets one opportunity for me to help them debug their code. Their score is based on how much of what we've learned that they can incorporate into their working program. The four main items are: 1) Taking input from the user, 2) Making calculations, 3) Conditionals, and 4) Printing with concatenation. So a "2" on the assessment includes two of those items, a "3" includes three, and a "4" has all four.
I provided an idea that the students could use for their program or they could come up with something entirely their own. I saw programs that predicted the future, told a "choose your own adventure" story, and made snarky comments based on which pets I had. I was thoroughly impressed with most students' preparation for this assessment. The last scores I'll enter this semester is Keyboarding (tomorrow at 7:30am).
